Swift Bestowal of Blessings

Our September text of the month is Swift Bestowal of Blessings: A Supplication Calling the Sources of Refuge from Afar. It is a short but profound prayer of devotion, supplication, and aspiration. Rooted in the Sakya tradition, it opens by invoking the Three Jewels and the Three Roots, then turns to the great masters of the lineage, supplicating their blessings for the deepening of renunciation, the awakening of bodhicitta, and the realization of the view. It continues with aspirations for pure vows, for realization of the generation and completion stages, and ultimately for the swift attainment of omniscience.

Three foundational masters of the Sakya lineage are collectively known in Tibetan as sa-ngor-tsar-sumSakya Paṇḍita Kunga Gyaltsen, one of the five founding patriarchs of the Sakya tradition; Ngorchen Kunga Zangpo, who established the Ngor lineage; and Tsarchen Losal Gyatso, founder of the Tsar lineage. The prayer also venerates Tartse Khenchen Jampa Kunga Tenzin, the forty-seventh throne holder of Ngor Monastery and one of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo’s root teachers.

Teaching on the Swift Bestowal of Blessings with Do Tulku Rinpoche

We are excited to announce this month’s Text of the Month event with special guest Do Tulku Rinpoche, who will teach on Swift Bestowal of Blessings: A Supplication Calling the Sources of Refuge from Afar. In this supplication we invoke the extraordinary blessings of three foundational Sakya lineage masters, praying to deepen renunciation, awaken bodhicitta, and recognize the indivisibility of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa through practicing the stages of the path.

We are grateful for the opportunity to receive Rinpoche’s teaching on this profound supplication, which we will study this month instead of the text originally announced.

Do Tulku Rinpoche was recognized by His Holiness Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche as the reincarnation of the 5th Raktrul Rinpoche. He is the resident lama and spiritual guide of Arya Tara’s Net, an online community and center for Buddhist studies and practice in Germany. Rinpoche is also one of KVP’s in-house translators and expert traditional scholar, providing guidance on difficult translation points to both our translation team and trainees. He is renowned for bringing clarity, warmth and humor to his teachings.
