A Homage to Tārā: Special Compilation for Khyentse Foundation’s 25th anniversary

Our May Text of the Month is A Homage to Tārā, a special compilation of prayers and practices by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, published in celebration of Khyentse Foundation’s 25th anniversary.

Since its inception, Khyentse Foundation has been under the care of Ārya Tārā. This compilation honors that enduring connection, bringing together some of Khyentse Wangpo’s many compositions dedicated to the Mother of All Buddhas.

Tārā arose from the tears of Avalokiteśvara as he wept for the suffering of beings. She embodies enlightened compassion and swift activity. Khyentse Wangpo was deeply devoted to her, encountering her regularly in visions throughout his life. She bestowed prophecies and blessings upon him, particularly through a White Tārā image he kept at his residence.

This collection represents only a small fraction of his extensive writings on Tārā. It brings together supplications invoking her protection, a praise that incorporates her root mantra, sādhana practices for both Green and White Tārā, and a feast offering. These texts offer practitioners ways to connect with Tārā’s swift activity, her compassionate blessings, and her power to dispel obstacles and grant longevity.
